About Us

I have resisted setting up a web site for a number of years primarily because I could not envision how to organize a 35-year body of work that has encompassed everything from a custom roll top desk to the wooden clock face on the steeple of Bristol's St Michael's Church to an 11,000 sq ft. Newport Chateau.  I was not comfortable with just pasting a dozen glamor shots on the internet and saying 'here we are'.  My satisfaction comes from the process - getting a building out of the ground, assembling the bones and delivering the finished work to a satisfied client.  With that in mind we have included a fair number of photos which reveal the framing process in new construction and the progression from rot to restoration in historic structures.

We are full service General Contractors capable of completing any task. Our crews function as a team - the men who arrive on day one to lay the sills are the same men who will be there at the end installing the hardware.  They take tremendous pride in their craft, and that pride is evident in everything we do.
-Chuck Millard, President

Chuck Millard, President
A graduate of the Portsmouth Priory (now Abbey) School and Columbia University, Chuck served in the United States Marine Corps before pursuing postgraduate studies in American History at Brown University. With a young family to support, he took a leave of absence and began working as a carpenter. Chuck soon realized he preferred the hands-on work of restoring and preserving old homes to delivering lectures about them. He founded Charles E. Millard, Inc. in 1977, and has spent the past thirty-five years pursuing one goal: providing his clients with the same standard of excellence he would expect for his own home.  Chuck@cmillardinc.com

Dean Nadalin, Project Coordinator
Before moving to the East Coast in 1989, Dean worked as a ski patrolman, EMT, and Forest Service firefighter while studying architecture in his home state of California. At the University of New Hampshire he received a B.A., Magna Cum Laude, in geography, and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Society. After several years with The National Geographic Society, working as a cartographer and researcher in the book and television divisions at their Washington, DC headquarters, Dean joined Charles E, Millard, Inc. in 1996. Since then, as the project coordinator, he has been guiding homeowners through the labyrinth of home construction from design to the final detail.  Dean@cmillardinc.com
